Choosing where to expand next

A repeatable framework that ranked new markets by return and identified a $4.5B opportunity.

The problem

A global risk analytics business wanted to grow into new international markets, but the product, commercial, sales and data teams each had a different priority country. With no consistent way to compare them, there was no agreed answer on where to go first.

What I did

As the lead on this global expansion project, I built a market evaluation framework from weighted factors, then tested it through more than ten expert interviews with regional leaders and market specialists, and researched the regulatory landscape and competitors in each region. I then set out entry strategies and potential partners for the top markets, and presented the recommendations to senior leadership.

The result

The framework identified a $4.5B opportunity and gave leadership a data-driven basis for market entry. It was adopted to evaluate later growth initiatives, and it taught me to weigh qualitative factors, such as regulation and partners, alongside the numbers.
